New Investigators

If you are a new

at the UW, or if you are an established PI that is planning their first animal study, the information on this page will guide you through the process of establishing a new IACUC protocol.

1

Assess

Determine if you need an IACUC protocol. Some animal activities may be exempt from IACUC review, such as work with incidental tissues and certain types of field work.

Additionally, determine if you can serve as PI (see definition in Glossary). If you are uncertain, contact OAWRSS (oawrss@uw.edu) or call the office at 206.685.7363. If yes, proceed to step 2.
